(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – The U.S. women’s saber squad secured three more medals for Team USA on the penultimate day of the Veteran World Championships.

All former individual Vet World Champions, Lydia Fabry (Simi Valley, Calif.) brought home the silver in the 50-59 competition while Delia Turner (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Jane Eyre (Wollwich Twp, N.J.) won silver and bronze in the 60-69 event, respectively.

Fabry has now medaled at the last three Veteran World Championships she has attended. The podium finishes also marked the 10th individual Vet World medal for both Turner and Eyre.

Now standing at 16 medals on the tournament, the Americans lead all countries. Germany currently ranks second with 14 medals and Italy sits in third with 12.

All four Americans in the 60-69 women’s saber competition finished pools in the top 10 with Eyre, Turner and Jennette Starks-Faulkner (Middletown, Conn.) ranking in the top five.

Turner, a 12-time Veteran World Team member, cruised through the first two rounds, defeating Sandra Schwarz (AUS), 10-1, in the table of 32 and Isabelle Molko (FRA), 10-3, in the 16.

In the quarter-finals, Turner drew Starks-Faulkner, an 11-time Vet World team member. Coming out on top at 10-6, Turner advanced to the semifinals, where she overcame Claudia Bandieri (ITA) by the same 10-6 score.

Fencing for gold, Turner was just outtouched by Karin Jansen (GER), 10-9, but claimed the silver for the second consecutive year.

A 14-time Vet World Team member, Eyre had yet to lose a direct elimination bout at Vet Worlds in the 60-69 women’s saber event, winning gold the last four consecutive years.

With a bye into the 16 as the third seed, Eyre made quick work of her first two bouts, besting Sue Benney (GBR) and Jennifer Morris (GBR) each by a 10-3 score.

However, in the semifinals, Eyre came up short, missing a chance at gold by just a touch with a 10-9 loss to Jansen.

Starks-Faulkner, already a two-time medalist at this year’s Vet Worlds with a bronze in the individual 60-60 foil competition on Wednesday and gold in team foil Thursday, also earned a bye into the table of 16.

After overpowering Patricia Reguigne (FRA), 10-3, the 11-time Vet World Team member had her day ended by Turner.

Seven-time Vet World Team member Heidi Runyan (San Diego, Calif.) earned a top-16 finish, outscoring Angela Findlay (GBR), 10-6, before becoming a third American to fall by a single point, losing to Bandieri, 10-9.

The gold medalist in 2015 in 50-59 saber, Fabry earned a bye into the table of 32. In her first two DE bouts, Fabry defeated Ayako Mitsui (JPN) and Caroline Clancy (GBR) by 10-7 scores.

After edging out teammate Robin Pernice (Carlisle, Mass.), 10-8, to guarantee a medal, Fabry secured a place in the final with a 10-5 victory over Christine Zoppke (GER).

In the final, Fabry fenced the defending gold medalist, Friederike Janshen (GER), and couldn’t keep the German from repeating, dropping the bout, 10-4.

Pernice finished fifth, her second straight top-eight finish.

A perfect 5-0 in pools, Pernice moved directly into the table of 32, where she blazed past Olga Aleksandrova (RUS), 10-3. She then set-up her match-up with Fabry with a 10-8 win over Maria Del Mar Martin Cid (ESP).

Dawn Wilson (Louisville, Ky.) and Liz Enochs (San Francisco, Calif.) each competed at their first Vet Worlds.

Wilson took her first-round bout against Niside Giordano (ITA), 10-7, but lost in the 16 to Min Yi Du (AUS), 10-6.

Enochs came out strong, earning the fifth seed with a 6-0 record in pools before being upset by Clancy, 10-8.

In the +70 women’s saber competition, Diane Hiatt (Sparks, Nev.) and Ellen O’Leary (Seattle, Wash.) finished fifth and seventh, respectively.

Hiatt, last year’s bronze medalist, earned the No. 1 seed out of pools and dominated her table of 16 bout against Janka Wohlfarth (GER), winning, 10-1. But in the quarter-finals, Hiatt couldn’t hold on against Wohlfarth’s teammate the bronze medalist from the +70 women’s foil event, Brigitte Greunke (GER), falling, 10-7.

A 12-time Vet World Team member and three-time gold medalist in the category, O’Leary posted a 10-6 victory over Patricia Shepherd-Foster (GBR) in the 16, but stumbled the following round and suffered a 10-1 loss to Marie Chantal Demaille (FRA), who went on to win bronze.

Gemin Channing (Frederick, Md.) and Sally Higgins (Tinton Falls, N.J.) also competed with Channing dropping her table of 16 bout to Yoshiko Tachibana (JPN), 10-2, and Higgins losing to Demaille, 10-8.

The 50-59 men’s epee competition saw 1992 Olympian Jon Normile (Millburn, N.J.) earn the best result for an American in the event, finishing 15th.

In his first year of eligibility, Normile gave up just three points in his first two bouts, besting Ates Mukremin Yaylioglu (TUR), 10-1, in the 128 and Keiju Suzuki (JPN), 10-2, in the 64.

Normile secured a spot in the 16 with a 10-6 victory over Keith Barnett (GBR) before losing to Georg Schmidt-Thomee (GER), 5-1.

Daniel Rees (Denver, Colo.), competing at his first Vet Worlds, and four-time Vet World Team member Sean Ameli (Las Vegas, Nev.), finished in the top 32.

Rees earned a bye into the table of 64 while Ameli outtouched Eric Hanssens (BEL), 9-8.

After overcoming Wolfgang Hirner (AUT), 10-5, Rees was edged out by second-seeded Alessandro Di Bella (ITA), 10-9.

Ameli defeated Marco Longo (GER), 9-3, but came up short in the 32 against Sergey Simovskikh (RUS), 10-8.

Evan Ranes (Henderson, Nev.) earned a bye into the table of 64 at his first Vet Worlds since 2009. However, he then lost to the eventual bronze medal winner, Cosimo Ferro (ITA), 10-5.
