(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – USA Fencing Coaching Education will host a sport psychology seminar focusing on being a supportive fencing parent at the December North American Cup in Portland, Ore.

Taking place on Dec. 9 from 5-6 p.m. in room 125 of the Oregon Convention Center, the one-hour session is free and open to the public.

The seminar will be led by Karen Cogan (Colorado Springs, Colo.), a U.S. Olympic Committee sport psychologist who works with the USA Fencing National Team.

The seminar will include a Q&A with Cogan and will address the following topics:

  • What behaviors that parents think are helpful might not be?
  • What can parents do when their child loses?
  • How can a parent instill independence?
  • How should a parent interact with a coach on behalf of the child?
