About USA Fencing

Mission: to grow and promote the sport of fencing in the United States, honor its rich traditions and to achieve sustained international success.

All money raised by the United States Fencing Foundation is used to support fencing in the United States by releasing the funds to USA Fencing for programs and operations or remains in the Foundation endowment for the long-term sustainability of the sport.

Founded originally as the Amateur Fencers League of America in 1891, USA Fencing is a 501(c)(3) nongovernmental nonprofit organization and is the recognized National Governing Body for the sport of fencing in the United States.

Based in Colorado Springs, Colo., USA Fencing is the official representative to the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) and the Federation International d'Escrime (FIE), the international federation for fencing. In this role, USA Fencing is responsible for training, developing and selecting American fencers for international competitions, including the World Championships, Pan American Games and the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Domestically, USA Fencing supports grassroots fencing through club and member services; coach and referee education; and, nationwide tournaments in local, regional and national circuits for recreational and competitive youth, cadet, junior, senior and veteran fencers.
83% of the USA Fencing’s budget is allocated for sport funding, programming and athletes so that we can:

  • Advance athlete and membership wellness and sustain a high level of sports performance, including parafencing
  • Grow the sport of fencing/parafencing by aggressively marketing and promoting the sport
  • Optimize leadership and operational effectiveness
  • Foster a diverse, equitable and inclusive culture that reflects DEIB and our Core Values
