High School All-American Team

USA Fencing High School All-American Program

USA Fencing is proud to recognize high school fencers across the country who have achieved at a high level on the fencing strip.  Athletes are encouraged to pursue this honor and be recognized as the best high school fencers in the country. In addition to their superior skills in the sport, All-Americans exhibit excellent leadership and sportsmanship.

Once the application fee is paid, you will receive an email confirmation with the link to the application that will need to be completed to be considered for the program.

Criteria for selection 

  1. Must be a current USA Fencing Access, Competitive, Life or Life Installment Member.
  2. Must be in 9-12th grade at a secondary school or in a home school program.  No post-graduate fencers will be considered.
  3. Must have earned or renewed an E rating or higher in the current fencing season (after August 1, 2023)
  4. Note: Fencers who earned or renewed a rating prior to August 1, 2023 can submit an appeal form. To be considered for appeal, the fencer must have competed regularly during the 2022-23 season with results worthy of All-American status.
  5. Must be in good academic standing at their school.
  6. Must have displayed exceptional character as an athlete, a student and a community member.       

All-American Teams

First Team USA Fencing All-American: Must have earned or renewed an “A” or “B” during the current competitive season and satisfied other requirements listed above.

Second Team USA Fencing All-American: Must have earned or renewed a “C” or “D” during the current competitive season and satisfied other requirements listed above.

Honorable Mention Team USA Fencing All-American: Must have earned or renewed an “E” during the current competitive season and satisfied other requirements listed above.

All-American selections will receive certificates of achievement and recognition in USA Fencing communications. All-American Team members can promote their accomplishment on college applications and personal resumes. 

Appeals will consider the following:

  • Number of overall competitions of any type in the  season (minimum of 2)
  • Number of finishes in the top 50% of any  tournament (minimum of one top-50% finish)
  • Quality of the tournament in  season (local, regional, national)

During the appeals process, fencers may qualify using a rating earned in 2022-23, which includes one of the following results at a national, regional or local competition:

  • Top 64 finish at a NAC
  • Top 32 finish at a regional tournament
  • Gold medal at a local tournament
