Assistant Coach, University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill, NC)

Job Description: 

University of North Carolina Department of Athletics is seeking applications for the position of Assistant Men’s & Women’s Fencing Coach (Specialist in Foil or Epee). Responsibilities include assisting the head coach with all aspects of the Division I fencing program including but not limited to: practice/competition activities, player skill development, recruiting and overall administrative tasks within the operation of the program. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required; successful intercollegiate fencing experience and knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations preferred. Strong interpersonal communications skills necessary, integrity, leadership, and a thorough knowledge of the sport are required. Must possess a strong commitment and ability to motivate, teach, counsel, and recruit academically qualified student-athletes.


  • Instruct team concepts, and promote safety matters during practices and during competition; assist with organizing and conducting practice sessions. Devise and implement daily practice plans along with developing strategies for competition. Assist head coach in determining game day lineups based on competitive performances and results in practice and competition.
  • Counsel and advise team members; engage in public relations activities and promotion of the sport in accordance with the Head Coach. Promote excellence in academics and life-skills for student-athletes.
  • Assist with conducting the Men's & Women’s Fencing program within NCAA, ACC and UNC policies and guidelines. Abide by all UNC, ACC and NCAA regulations.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned by the Head Coach.


Bachelor’s degree required. 1-5 years of experience in an intercollegiate environment preferably at a Division I level. Knowledge of and familiarity with NCAA rules and regulations, particularly as they apply to the sport of fencing. Good organizational, interpersonal communications and computer skills necessary.
