Head Coach, Missoula Fencing Association (Missoula, MT)

Job Description:

A growing fencing club in beautiful western Montana is looking for a full time head coach. Missoula Fencing Association (MFA) is a two weapon club (epée and foil) that instructs both youth and adults in competitive and recreational fencing. We are located in a vibrant university town in the Rocky Mountains of western Montana. MFA prides itself on youth development and received the 2017 US Fencing Club of Excellence in Youth Development award. We also focus on a positive approach to coaching. Our mission is Building community through sport. The ideal candidate will be someone who is interested in inspiring young people to fence, recruiting new members, increasing our visibility and being involved in a close-knit fencing community. This is a great opportunity for a highly motivated individual with an entrepreneurial bent.

Responsibilities:

Duties include teaching youth and adult group classes and private lessons, promoting programs in area schools and the community, supervising junior coaching staff, and working with the Board and parent committees on marketing, fundraising and administration of the club. Work will include weekend tournaments and club activities, and travel to out of town events. MFA is committed to our coaches’ continuing professional development and sends them to seminars, clinics, and tournaments.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and enjoy working with both kids and parents in a supportive team environment. Enthusiasm for the sport of fencing and a positive approach to coaching is a must. In addition, we are looking for candidates with:

● Five or more years of fencing experience
● At least two years of coaching in epée and foil
● Either current USFCA certification or the ability to achieve certification at a minimum of Moniteur level in the first six months of hire
● Certifications in CPR and basic First Aid
● Current Coach membership with USA Fencing or the ability to complete membership with clean background check and Safe Sport compliance
