Head Coach, Missoula Fencing Association (Missoula, MT)

Full Time/Part Time:  Full Time
Start Date:  Upon Hire

Job Description:

Growing fencing club in beautiful western Montana is looking for a full time head coach. Missoula Fencing Association is a 2 weapon club (epee and foil) that teaches fencing to both youth and adults, competitive and recreational. We are located in a beautiful university town in the Rocky Mountains of western Montana. Missoula is a great place to raise a family or retire, and everything in between, especially for outdoor enthusiasts. Missoula Fencing Association prides itself on youth development (we received last year's US Fencing Club of Excellence in Youth Development award), community building and a positive approach to coaching. Our motto is Building community through sport. The ideal candidate will be someone who is interested in growing our program, being involved in a close-knit fencing community and eventually overseeing all club operations. This is a great opportunity for someone with an entrepreneurial bent who is interested in managing their own club.

Duties will include teaching youth and adult group classes and private lessons, promoting programs in area schools and help with marketing and administration of the club.  We are first and foremost interested in a coach who can help our kids develop into the fencers they wish to become and also serve as a positive mentor, and secondly a desire and aptitude to learn the marketing and administrative functions of the club.  Work will include weekend tournaments and club activities, and travel to other towns for both teaching and tournaments. Coaches are expected to continue learning and improving by attending seminars, clinics, tournaments and the like.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and enjoy working with both kids and parents in a supportive team environment.  A positive approach to coaching is a must. In addition, we are looking for candidates with:

  • 5+ years of fencing experience
  • 2+ years of coaching in epee and foil
  • Either current USFCA certification or the ability to achieve certification at a minimum of Moniteur level in the first 6 months of hire
  • Certifications in CPR and basic 1st Aid
  • Current Coach membership with USA Fencing (or the ability to complete membership with clean background check and Safe Sport compliance)
