The Head Coach has responsibility for the overall operation of the Men’s and Women’s Fencing programs in accordance with University, conference and NCAA regulations.
The position is a 100% time, 12-month contract position with full benefits. The Head Coach must have a commitment to the philosophy of providing a competitive NCAA program that emphasizes integrity and the educational welfare of its student-athletes and strives for athletic excellence within the University’s mission.

Regular duties include coaching effectively in practices and successfully in tournaments and competition, developing student-athletes athletically and academically, organizing and implementing a recruiting plan, effectively utilizing scholarship funds to attract and retain top scholar-athletes, preparing and monitoring annual operational, recruiting, scholarship budgets, and developing community and alumni support.
The incumbent must follow the athletic philosophy consistent with that of the UC San Diego Athletic Department and a commitment to diversity in all of its forms. Must have highly advanced and effective interpersonal, motivational and team leadership skills to work effectively with diverse student-athletes, parents of student-athletes, staff and alumni.
Coordinate contest/event, tournament management, recruitment of student-athletes, and knowledge of and compliance with all NCAA, conference and UC San Diego rules and regulations
Preferred successful collegiate head coaching experience at a high-ranking academic institution, working knowledge of NCAA regulations, and a Bachelor’s degree.
•Good interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy, flexibility and ability to communicate ideas effectively. Ability to foster an environment that supports equity, diversity and inclusion.
•Recognized expertise in team sport and coaching principles for student athletes. Successful collegiate coaching, teaching, and/or competing experience in specified sport.
•Demonstrated effective recruiting and use of scholarship funds in recruiting and budgeting skills
•Strong demonstrated knowledge of sound principles and rules governing specified sport.
•Current knowledge of applicable rules and standards of the affiliated athletic conference, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
