Personal: After a car accident at age 17 left Brinson a paraplegic, the former multi-sport high school athlete turned his attention to sled hockey before being recruited to compete in wheelchair fencing in 2006. Within just four years, Brinson qualified for his first World Championship Team. Although he won medals in both foil and epee at the 2011 Pan American Wheelchair Championships, his specialty weapon – saber – wasn’t contested at the Paralympic qualifier. Brinson continued to fight his way through the World Cup circuit to build his world ranking and qualify for London. Brinson returned to the Paralympic stage in 2016, fencing in Rio at his second Games.
