The New Points and Events Structure: Field Guide

On Aug. 1, 2026, a new points and events structure took effect for the Cadet, Junior and Senior categories. It changes two things: how our largest national events are run, and how points are earned and counted. This guide will summarize all articles that have been released, making it easier to navigate this new system with straightforward breakdowns. If you wish to read our previously posted articles, they can be found below.

During the trial window, there will be regular periods of review and feedback. National Coaches, Parents Council, and the Athlete Council are part of that review process by design. If something isn’t working as intended, the system can be adjusted, and we’ll update these materials accordingly. If you have feedback regarding the new system, you can submit your feedback here. (Note: This is for feedback about the new system, not to report missing points or to ask questions about qualification status!)

A quick note before you dig in. This is the biggest change to how we compete at home in a generation, and the first weeks have come with growing pains. Some of the technology is still catching up to the policy. Questions have come in faster than we planned for, and we're behind on answering some of them. We're one month into a two-year trial, and it shows. We apologize for the additional stress this early part of the new system places on athletes, parents, coaches and the community at-large.

We're working hard to get this right, we're reading everything you send, and we'll keep updating this guide as things settle. Thank you for your patience and your feedback. Both are shaping what happens next.
