USA Fencing to Host Strip Coaching Seminar at the Division I National Championships and April NAC

(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – USA Fencing will be offering a seminar on strip coaching with Maestro Edwin “Buzz” Hurst on April 13, 2019 from 5-6 p.m. in Room 251C of the Salt Palace Convention Center.

Held as a guided discussion, this clinic will cover issues such as:

  • Does strip coaching do any good?
  • What are the most effective ways to strip coach?
  • What are common errors that a coach should avoid?
  • Are there areas where the coach can be particularly helpful?

Participants will be encouraged to share opinions and examples with Hurst acting as the moderator.

The cost to attend the clinic is $75 for USA Fencing Coach members and $125 for all other USA Fencing members. Space is limited to 30 participants.

Hurst has been a private coach in Southern California since 1987 and is accredited as a Master of Arms by the Academie d’Armes Internationale and a Fencing Master by the US Fencing Coaches Association. He is a Naval Academy graduate where he was a First Team All-American in saber. In addition to giving private lessons, he coaches the UC Santa Barbara club team. Previously he coached varsity fencing at Stanford University and Cal State Northridge.
