USA Fencing Board of Directors Election: Call for Petitions

The USA Fencing Election Committee will be accepting petitions from those seeking to run in the 2020 USA Fencing Board of Directors Election. All petitions must be received by the USA Fencing National Office prior to April 1, 2020.

Please Note: All petitions must be received by the USA Fencing National Office in hard copy ONLY. Electronic petitions and electronic delivery of copies of petitions are not permitted. The USA Fencing National Office will be open for receipt of petitions through 5 p.m. Mountain Time on March 31.

Eligibility Requirements

On Jan. 15, the USA Fencing Nominating Committee announced that the following individuals will be candidates in the election:

President (One to be Elected)
Donald Anthony Jr. (Columbus, Ohio)

Treasurer (One to be Elected)
David Arias (Birmingham, Ala.)

At-Large Director (One to be Elected)
Lorrie Marcil Holmes (Washington, D.C.)
Vickie Miller (Durham, N.C.)
Scott Webb (Grand Rapids, Mich.)
Richard Weiss (Vienna, Va.)

Per Article IX Section 3 of the USA Fencing Bylaws, additional candidates for the President and Treasurer positions may be nominated provided that:

  1. The prospective candidate identifies the position for which he or she seeks selection and meets the qualifications of that position; and
     
  2. Prior to or simultaneously with the submission of supporting petitions, the prospective candidate shall have in writing indicated his or her willingness to serve and acceded to the Qualifying Affirmation prescribed in this Article; and
     
  3. The petitions submitted in support of the prospective candidate include subscriptions of not less than two percent of the voting members in good standing [207] individual voting members) whose identity and intent are not reasonably subject to doubt and who have among them named no fewer than fifty separate member clubs as their primary affiliation.
     
  4. The Election Committee shall determine whether each person nominated by petition meets the qualifications laid down in these Bylaws for the office being sought, and shall only allow the names of those candidates who do so to appear on the ballot or to receive votes.

Per Article IX Section 4 of the USA Fencing Bylaws, additional candidates for the At-Large position may be nominated provided that:

  1. The prospective candidate identifies the position for which he or she seeks selection and meets the qualifications of that position; and
     
  2. Prior to or simultaneously with the submission of supporting petitions, the prospective candidate shall have in writing (1) indicated his or her willingness to serve and (2) executed and delivered  the Qualifying Affirmation prescribed in this Article; and
     
  3. The petitions submitted in support of the prospective candidate include no fewer than 25 subscriptions of voting members in good standing who have among them named no fewer than five separate member clubs as their primary affiliation and whose identity and intent are not reasonably subject to doubt.
     
  4. The Election Committee shall determine whether each person nominated by petition meets the qualifications laid down in the Bylaws for the position on the Board of Directors being sought, and shall only allow the names of those candidates who do so to appear on the ballot or to receive votes.
