The USA Fencing Referees Commission has voted to create a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Task Force. The purpose of this task force is to ensure that diversity, equity, and inclusion are incorporated into the core functions of the RC.

The task force, in collaboration with the RC subcommittees, will:

  • Evaluate the current make-up of the referee cadre, CRIs, and CROs to identify underrepresented populations;
  • Evaluate the current hiring practices and ratings structure to identify strategies designed to increase the recruitment of underrepresented populations;
  • Identify educational and training programs for the referee cadre to foster better understanding of racism and bias;
  • Consider creating a permanent DEIB subcommittee within the RC;
  • Review the current Referee Code of Ethics

The above items are just the start. The task force will most likely identify other areas that require action.

The task force shall have 5-7 members. The members must have a current USA Fencing membership with a completed background check and Safesport training.

If you are interested in participating in this task force, please submit a statement of interest and experience to Tasha Martin at rcchair@refereescommission.org. The RC will review all submissions and identify participants in the task force. Please submit your statement of interest by June 30, 2021.

If you have any questions, please feel free to send an email to rcchair@refereescommission.org
