For the Division I men’s and women’s épée events at the October NAC, the event format will be determined after the regular entry fee deadline, based upon the number of registered fencers in each event. Based on the total number of registrants, the épée events may be conducted with one or two pool rounds.

If an event has more than 202 fencers, it will be conducted with two rounds of pools. If an event has 202 fencers or fewer, there will only be a single round of pools. For a full summary of each format, see below:

Two-Pool Format (203 fencers or greater)

  • One-day event with two rounds of pools
  • Top 34 fencers will receive a bye into the second round of pools. Byes will be awarded based on the USA Fencing National Rolling Points Standings, as of the regular seeding deadline (10 days before the start of the tournament).
  • 75 percent promoted from first round of pools to second round.
  • 75 percent promoted to single elimination after second round

One-Pool Format (202 fencers or less)

  • One round of pools; 6 or 7-person pool,
  • 75 percent promoted to single elimination
