Selection criteria and international calendars are now available for senior, junior and cadet athletes seeking to qualify for 2022 World or Zonal Championship events.

2021-22 Selection Criteria

2021-22 International Designated Events

The international calendar page will be updated throughout the season to reflect any cancellations or changes to event dates. If the dates or location for an event are changed, the national coaches, Athlete Council and the Sports Performance Resource Team will assess the circumstances regarding the event to determine whether it will remain on the designated calendar.

New this Year: For senior athletes, all World Cup events held during the 2021-22 season will count for 2022 Senior and Zonal World Championship Team selection, including spring tournaments held after the conclusion of the 2022 Division I National Championships.

Due to the cancellation of the first two international tournaments of the season for men’s foil, the senior men’s foil selection criteria will count the best three international results at designated events as Group II values. All other weapons will count the best four results as Group II. As has been done in the past, additional results not counted in the Group II sum will roll over into Group I points.

Across all weapons, there have been numerous cancellations on the Junior World Cup and Cadet European Cup circuits. In order to account for fewer event opportunities, all junior and cadet team selection criteria will count the best two international results in the Group II total with additional results rolling over into Group I points.

Registration for international events will open in the coming days at member.usafencing.org. Please Note: All athletes, staff and other individuals traveling as part of the delegation for any international event must comply with regulations from the local organizers and / or the FIE / EFC concerning COVID-19, including testing and masking requirements or vaccine mandates.

International Event Replacement Calendar

For cadet and junior fencers, all points earned at international events in 2019 and 2020 will be removed from the National Rolling Point Standings, effective immediately. Updated points will be posted in the coming days. Athletes who earned points at the 2021 Junior and Cadet World Championships will retain those points until the 2022 Junior and Cadet Worlds.

Senior fencers will retain all international points listed on the NRPS as of the conclusion of the 2021-22 season. The oldest international event on the NRPS from the 2019 and 2020 seasons will be replaced by the first event of the 2021-22 season and so on. All points will be removed in chronological order, regardless of whether the event is a World Cup or a Grand Prix.

In addition, foreign fencers who have not attended a domestic event within the previous twelve months will be removed from the National Rolling Point Standings.

If there are fewer events held during the 2021-22 season than past tournaments to be replaced, all points earned prior to 2021 will be removed at the conclusion of the final Grand Prix or World Cup event of the 2021-22 season and will not count for team selection.

Maraging Blades

Effective Sept. 1, 2021, maraging steel blades will be required for all weapons at all FIE events. The EFC will require maraging blades for all events on Jan. 1, 2022.
