By USA Fencing

(Colorado Springs, Colo.) -- Today, USA Fencing was made aware of the arrest of a fencing coach on October 13, 2021 for sexual misconduct with a minor. We join in outrage at the prospect that anyone involved in our sport could potentially be involved in harming a young person. The safety of all members is USA Fencing’s top priority and we stand in support of victims of abuse.

As required by federal law, this issue was immediately reported to the U.S. Center for SafeSport and the Center has taken jurisdiction. At this point, as with all matters of accusation of this sort, the Center will investigate and decide on any disciplinary sanction of this individual within our sport. USA Fencing urges the Center to prioritize the safety of our athletes, coaches, and stakeholders first and foremost. If a sanction is issued in this case, we will immediately notify clubs, divisions and committees, and this individual will immediately be placed on the Ineligible and Suspended Member List page on the USA Fencing website.

Anyone who has experienced sexual, physical or emotional abuse within our sport is encouraged to report these incidents to the U.S. Center for SafeSport at www.uscenterforsafesport.org. For resources to help with the impact of abuse in our sport, visit the USA Fencing Safe Sport page at https://www.usafencing.org/safe-sport.
