Parafencing National Coach Search begins at January NAC Clinic

PARAFENCING COACHING CLINIC

USA Fencing will be hosting a Parafencing Coaches Clinic at the January NAC in San Jose, CA that will be led by Maestro Gary van der Wege. The seminar portion of this clinic will be held Thursday (Jan 6) at 5:00-7:00 pm PT with optional USFCA certification practical evaluations occurring throughout the weekend. This opportunity is open to coaches of all levels and both members and non-members of the USFCA. The clinic will focus on best practices, strategies, and adaptability within Parafencing.

USA PARAFENCING NATIONAL COACH SELECTION PROCESS

 

This clinic is the first step in the first official USA Parafencing National Coach hiring process. Attendance at the aforementioned Parafencing Coaching Clinic at the January NAC IS REQUIRED. The selection of the USA Parafencing National Coach will be a multi-step process from January to September of 2022.

  • 2022 Coaching Structure
    • National Coach(es) will not be named until August or September 2022
    • Timeline
      • January NAC Coaches Clinic & Trials
        • OPEN TO ALL LEVELS OF COACHES
        • Required registration questionnaire
        • Seminar and Practical Evaluation Attendance Required
        • Led by Gary Van der Wege
          • Practical Evaluation will be giving an athlete (not your student) a lesson 
        • Independent panel of evaluators - athletes, coaches & reps
        • Will be narrowed down to 3-5 candidates for National Team Coach(es) based on questionnaire, practicals & evaluators
      • Trial World Cups
        • Each candidate will go to one of the three World Cups that USA coaches are being sent to prior to the Zonal Championships
        • Will be evaluated by athletes & staff at World Cups on communication, strip coaching, lesson giving & more
      • Decision
        • Feedback from evaluators & athletes will be combined & reviewed
        • The decision will come from National Office in August or September
        • Potential for One Coach, One Lead & One Assistant, or Two Co-Leads
        • The first event would be Pre-Zonals Camp in October at the OPTC
