Behind every fencer’s victory, medal or championship, there’s a great coach.

But what motivates these coaches to devote their time to our sport? What keeps them coming back? And what additional support would help them be even more effective at performing this essential role?

A new online survey is designed to answer those questions and more. All fencing coaches — past and present — are invited to take the National Coach Survey, which targets youth sport coaches who work with young people in any sport setting. 

Anyone who completes the 15-minute survey will be entered to win a $50 gift card. 

The survey will address topics like:

• Coaches’ background and training

• The reason they began coaching and what keeps them coaching

• Their confidence level based upon their training

• The additional supports they need to be an effective coach

• Their perceptions of the current youth sports system in their community

Make your voice heard and take the survey today. Be sure to indicate your affiliation with USA Fencing when you complete your responses.

The survey is an effort led by Project Play, the signature initiative of the Aspen Institute's Sports & Society Program. It is supported by LiFESports at OSU (the Ohio State University) with support from Nike and the Susan Crown Exchange.

Groups that receive more than 500 responses from coaches within their organization will receive their organization-specific results from Project Play. At USA Fencing, that information will help us better support our talented and dedicated coaches.
