Introducing National Celebrate Fencing Week — Sept. 4–9. 2023 — an opportunity for members and member clubs to celebrate all the people who make our sport great.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — On the second Saturday of the month for the last seven years, the FIE (International Fencing Federation) has been celebrating World Fencing Day.

This year, for the first time, USA Fencing is starting the party early.

Introducing National Celebrate Fencing Week — an opportunity for members and member clubs to celebrate all the people who make our sport great.

That means recognizing our talented fencers, of course, but also coaches, officials, armorers and committee members/volunteers. The timing of National Celebrate Fencing Week — Sept. 4–9, 2023 — is perfect, and not just because World Fencing Day is Sept. 9.

This is also a time when many fencing clubs are recruiting new fencing families and welcoming back those who took a short break during the summer.

We’ve been hard at work preparing special materials for coaches and club owners that they can easily customize to help them spread the word in their communities.

You’ll find it all at our National Celebrate Fencing Week hub, located at usafencing.org/ncfw.

What Is World Fencing Day?

Every year on the second Saturday in September, the FIE (International Fencing Federation) honors World Fencing Day. The occasion, which is celebrating its seventh year in 2023, is an opportunity for the global fencing family to salute our favorite sport.

What Is National Celebrate Fencing Week?

National Celebrate Fencing Week is a tribute to the athletes, coaches, officials, armorers, and volunteers who make fencing extraordinary in the United States — all leading up to World Fencing Day.

Clubs and members can use the hashtag #CelebrateFencing all week long!

Here’s the schedule of events for 2023:

  • Monday, Sept. 4 — Athletes: A day dedicated to honoring and highlighting the skills and achievements of all athletes (able-bodied athletes and parafencers) who bring excitement and energy to the sport of fencing.

  • Tuesday, Sept. 5 — Coaches: Join us in celebrating the coaches, the masterminds behind the success, who foster growth and inspire athletes at every level of competition.

  • Wednesday, Sept. 6 — Officials: A special tribute to the officials, whose dedication to fairness and integrity ensures that every bout is conducted with respect and sportsmanship.

  • Thursday, Sept. 7 — Armorers: Appreciating the armorers, the unsung heroes who maintain and repair equipment, making sure that every bout is fought with precision and safety.

  • Friday, Sept. 8 — Committee Members/Volunteers: Recognizing the efforts of committee members and volunteers, the backbone of the fencing community, whose passion and hard work make every event possible.

  • World Fencing Day, Sept. 9 — Celebrating Clubs: An international celebration coordinated by the FIE (International Fencing Federation) to highlight the diverse and thriving fencing clubs across the globe, where enthusiasts of all ages come together to practice, compete and share their love for the sport.

#CelebrateFencing year-round with a gift to the U.S. Fencing Foundation (USFF) to help provide resources to clubs, athletes, coaches, and the community.
