COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Avenues Online, the Official School of USA Fencing, will offer two scholarships each year for the next 3 years to USA Fencing members entering grade 7 or above. Applications for the first set of scholarships, which will begin in the 2024-25 school year, are now open. Scholarship applications close Jan. 15.

Through the scholarship program, Avenues Online will provide access to its flexible and high-quality educational experience to two student-athletes entering grade 7 or higher who demonstrate academic and fencing achievement, sportsmanship and financial need.

The scholarship program is the fulfillment of one of many promises made when USA Fencing and Avenues Online first announced their partnership in August. 

“Avenues Online offers a fantastic and flexible option for our young fencers to excel both academically and athletically,” says USA Fencing CEO Phil Andrews. “Avenues Online and USA Fencing are committed to supporting the next generation of talent, and this scholarship program is a significant step in that direction.”

Amy Young, global director of online programs at Avenues, shares that, “Avenues is thrilled to welcome USA Fencing members and honored to be awarding scholarships to talented scholar-athletes. We know that traditional academic schedules create barriers for performance athletes. We remove those constraints so high achieving students don't need to compromise on academic quality or rigor.”

Scholarship recipients will receive:

• Full tuition at Avenues Online, renewable annually through graduation

• A complete technology package, including a MacBook Air, iPad and Apple Pencil

• Support and guidance from an expert college counselor starting in grade 10

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be:

• Active members of USA Fencing

• Entering grade 7 or above in the 2024-25 school year

• Applied to or currently enrolled at Avenues Online

Applicants will be evaluated based on:

• Academic achievement

• Fit for Avenues Online

• Fencing achievement

• Sportsmanship

• Financial need

1. Apply to Avenues Online before Jan. 1, and inform the admissions officer that you are interested in applying for the scholarship.

2. Complete the scholarship application by Jan. 15. This form will be provided as part of the application process.

3. Scholarship awards will be announced in February. Note that the scholarship application has no impact on admissions decisions.
