COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A decade before they climbed the Olympic medal stand, Team USA’s fencing greats got their start at tournaments like this one.

Now’s your chance to witness the next generation of fencing stars at the November North American Cup, slated for Nov. 10–13, 2023, at the Fort Worth Convention Center.

A total of 2,268 competitors will participate across 24 events, spanning age categories from Y-14 to Junior. Competitors hail from 35 states, truly showcasing the nationwide appeal of fencing. Within these young champions, 109 are proud North Texans.

The competition includes three age categories:

• Y-14 — for fencers age 11 to 14

  • Officially, this category is for athletes between 2009 and 2012, with exceptions made for fencers born after 2012 who are on the National Youth 12 Point Standings at the time of the entry deadline for the tournament

• Cadet — for fencers age 13 to 16 

  • Officially, this category is for athletes born between 2007 and 2010, with exceptions made for fencers born after 2010 who are on the National Youth 14 Point Standings at the time of the entry deadline for the tournament

• Junior — for fencers age 13 to 19

  • Officially, this category is for athletes born between 2004 and 2010, with exceptions made for fencers born after 2010 who are on the National Cadet Point Standings at the time of the entry deadline for the tournament

It's worth noting that many greats, like Tokyo Olympic Champion Lee Kiefer, ignited their journey at tournaments like this. A potential future Olympian might just be among us in Fort Worth.

USA Fencing CEO Phil Andrews will be in Fort Worth to cheer on the athletes, and he shared his excitement for the tournament. 

“The North American Cup in Fort Worth is more than a tournament,” he says. “It's a celebration of the spirit, dedication and talent of our young fencers. As we watch these competitors, we're not just seeing the sport's future, but the potential next wave of Olympians. Their passion and determination reflect the very essence of USA Fencing.”

The tournament is free to enter, but spectators will be required to pick up a free wristband at the registration desk to gain access to the competition hall. The tournament starts at 8 a.m. daily (Friday through Monday), with the last final expected to end around 7 or 8 p.m. daily.
