That’s two straight gold medals to start the 2023-24 FIE season for Massialas, while Kiefer earns silver at the first Women's Foil tournament of 2023-24.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — For Alexander Massialas OLY (Massialas Foundation — M Team), the plan in 2023 has been clear: Earn gold medals. Lots of them.

Massialas added to his tally on Saturday in Tokoname, Japan, winning the Tokoname Men's Foil World Cup. That’s two straight gold medals to start the 2023-24 FIE season for Massialas, who also won gold in November in Istanbul.

The medal is Massialas' 10th career gold at an FIE World Cup or Grand Prix event and fifth gold medal in the calendar year.

More than 5,600 miles away, in Novi Sad, Serbia, Lee Kiefer OLY (Bluegrass Fencers' Club) started her 2023-24 FIE season off right with a silver at the Novi Sad World Cup.

This was the 32nd World Cup/Grand Prix medal for Kiefer in her legendary career, and she — like Massialas — is ranked No. 1 in the world.

While Massialas and Kiefer earned Team USA's two individual medals this weekend, they weren't the only ones whose business trips were successful. Several Team USA fencers helped their standing on the road to the Paris Olympics with top 8, top 16, top 32 and top 64 finishes. Great job, team!

Congratulations to these fencers and all who competed this weekend. And we can’t forget the teams behind the team — coaches, sports med providers, parents, teammates, clubmates and everyone else who ensures our athletes are at their best month after month.
