USA Fencing to Launch Inaugural HBCU Externship Program

USA Fencing is proud to provide students career development opportunities in the NGB space.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -  USA Fencing is proud to announce that it will launch its inaugural Historically Black Colleges or Universities (HBCUs) Externship Program at the 2024 Summer Nationals in Columbus, OH. 

This externship program aims to provide students from HBCUs career development opportunities in the business of a National Governing Body (NGB) of sport. Through this program, USA Fencing will help forge career pathways for underrepresented groups to enter the USA Olympic & Paralympic Movement.

“I am beyond excited for the launch of this externship program. This program is a testament to our commitment to increasing access across our entire ecosystem. It's my hope that this program helps spark a pathway to build qualified candidates from diverse backgrounds to not only potentially enter USA fencing's workforce, but the Olympic & Paralympic Movement as well,” said Shannon Jolly, USA Fencing’s Senior Manager for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging.

This experience targets undergraduate (juniors or seniors) and graduate students to work within a variety of departments, including marketing and communications, events, DEI and community impact Fellows will gain hands-on experience and mentorship from USA Fencing staff on site at nationally sanctioned events.

To be eligible for this program you must:

  • Be a full-time student at an accredited HBCU

  • Be a current undergraduate junior or senior, or a graduate student

  • Have a 2.75 minimum GPA

  • Be interested in careers in sport and/or entertainment
