Day two of the March NAC showcases the dedication and effort of rising young fencers.

PORTLAND, Ore. -  Day two of the March NAC in Portland witnessed the return of young fencers to the strips, showcasing their determination and focus. The competition intensified as these aspiring athletes eagerly pursued victory and coveted medals.

Y-12 Women’s Epee Gold Medalist, Navya Neelam (Elite Fencing Academy (GA) / Elite Fencing Academy (VA)) said “Honestly, it feels like I have been rewarded for my hard work, but I do know that there are still more events that I have to do,” when talking about how great it felt to be winning gold this weekend.

She said that the most important thing when working out at the fencing club is “your mentality at the club, and how you focus in it.” She said her top tip to staying focused is to “put your heart into it and believe in yourself more.”

Delilah Huai (Premier Fencing Academy), Cadet Women’s Saber gold medalist, said it felt great to win gold and she was so thankful to everyone who helped her. When asked about what was going through her head when she realized she winning she said “I was mostly calm at the end, I don’t think I had processed that I actually won, and it hit me later and I was very happy.

Y-12 Men’s Foil gold medalist Bradley Li (Star Fencing Academy) said it felt great to win because he had some “tough battles, especially in the sixteens to eights and in the finals.”  He continued saying when he realized he had won “even though I was winning in the beginning, he caught up and I got really nervous. Then I couldn’t believe that I had pulled it out and won.”
