Experience the exhilarating conclusion of the March NAC as fencers showcase their skills and vie for victory in intense finals.

PORTLAND, Ore. -  The final day of the 2024 March North American Cup (NAC) brought all smiles as ratings were earned, and gold medals shined bright. Young fencers were all smiles as they stood proud at the top of the podium.

Y-10 Women’s Saber gold medalist, Rei Nemorin (Manhattan Fencing Center), was “so happy” to win. She said “It’s been a rewarding day.” Nemorin not only won gold but also earned her E24 rating. Regarding her rating she said “I feel so excited. I get to fence with the older girls, try different moves, and come up with different action plans.”

She said her favorite part of coming to a NAC is getting to visit different cities and see the different monuments but also getting on the strip. She said “when I get on the strip I think of a good action plan, and I just go for it. I don’t hesitate, just go for it.”

On the men’s side in Y-10 Men’s Saber Andrew Gu (LA Fencing Academy of Pomona), took home gold and said “I feel very happy.” He also said that other than winning a gold medal, he loves coming to NAC’s to “fence other people, it’s just fun.”

(Bowen) Xu (CAN), the Y-14 Men’s Foil gold medalist, said “it honestly felt really good” to win. “I felt really relieved when I won, because this is my last Y-14 tournament, and I really really wanted to win this.” He said that he previously didn’t do well, getting top 16, but felt that this outing he had reached his goal.

For Xu, he likes fencing at NAC’s because fencing in Canada he only is fencing against people at his club. He said “It’s only a few people I am fencing with at my club, but when I get to fence at NAC’s there people from other countries I can compete with, and it’s honestly just really fun to fence with them and see where I am at.
