Our referees will be required to recertify every two years. All referees who took the written exam prior to August 1, 2010 must recertify by taking the online exam by July 31, 2013.

Attention all referees!

Our sport is growing not only in size, but in prestige. The successes of our athletes and coaches have thrust the United States federation onto the world stage. As most other Olympic sports have already done, we are going to embark on a continuing education program for our referees. Referees will be expected to maintain their skills by officiating at tournaments on a regular basis, and will also have to demonstrate their proficiency of current rules by recertifying via the referee exam.

To facilitate this process, the referee exam is now available online. Our referees will be required to recertify every two years. All referees who took the written exam prior to August 1, 2010 must recertify by taking the online exam by July 31, 2013. You will then be considered an "activeā€¯ referee, and will be on the list of referees eligible to be hired for national tournaments.

Once you have passed the written exam, and have officiated at your rating level in a given season, your current rating will be retained and updated.

The study guide and the referee exam itself can be found under the Ratings menu of the fencing officials website at the following address:

Thank you for all of your hard work towards the success of our sport.

See you on strip!
