Amanda Sirico won gold and Kasia Nixon claimed bronze in Grenoble at the Cadet European Epee Cup on Saturday.

Top eight finishers Katie Angen (seventh), Amanda Sirico (gold) and Kasia Nixon (bronze).

(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – Sixteen-year-old Amanda Sirico (Bowie, Md.) won her first international title and climbed to a #4 ranking on the Cadet European Circuit on Saturday at the Grenoble Cadet European Epee Cup in France. Sirico’s teammate, 14-year-old Kasia Nixon (Los Angeles, Calif.) also reached the podium where she earned the bronze medal.

Competing in a double pool format, Sirico won 12 straight pool bouts to earn a #1 seed in the direct elimination tables.

Sirico was one of three U.S. athletes to be seeded in the top eight in the DE tables as Belinda Mo (Irvine, Calif.) and Jennifer Horowitz (Los Angeles, Calif.) were seeded sixth and eighth, respectively.

After a bye into the table of 64, Sirico defeated her U.S. teammate, Stephanie Wolf (Newton, Mass.), 15-4.

Sirico won her table of 32 bout against Nicole Abate (ITA), 15-9, and earned a 15-6 victory over Molly Hudson (GBR) in the table of 16.

In the next round, Sirico won her table of eight bout against Italian Alla Kashaeva, 15-9.

Both Sirico and Nixon were two of four athletes who advanced to the quarter-finals with undefeated records.

Competing in the table of 16 for the first time at a European event, Nixon earned the first of two bouts by a single touch with her victory over Oceane Tahe (FRA), 13-12.

In the table of eight, Nixon edged second seed Arina Skolysheva (RUS), 15-14, and went on to defeat Alla Kashaeva (RUS), 15-6, to advance to the semifinals.

Sirico met teammate Katie Angen (Los Angeles, Calif.) in the quarter-finals after Angen rebounded from a loss in the table of 16 to win her next two repechage bouts and move into the quarter-finals.

Sirico won her bout against Angen, 15-9, to advance to the semifinals where she defeated Eleonora De Marchi (ITA), 15-9.

In the semis, Nixon lost to Alice Clerici (ITA), 7-3, and finished the day with a bronze medal.

In the gold medal final, Sirico defeated Clerici, 15-11, to take her first Cadet European Cup title.

On Sunday, two U.S. squads competed in the team event. USA 1, including Sirico and Nixon as well as Charlene Liu (Bridgewater, N.J.) and Madeline Kehl (Valencia, Calif.), won both pool rounds where they defeated Italy, 45-38, and Great Britain, 45-21.

At the conclusion of the pools, the top four teams advanced to the semifinals where USA 1 defeated Russia 2, 45-36.

In the gold medal final, the Americans faced Russia 1 and won the bout, 45-34.
