(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – Seven members of Team USA qualified to compete in the table of 64 that will be held on Saturday at the La Coruna Foil World Cup in Spain.
With Race Imboden (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Alexander Massialas (San Francisco, Calif.) exempt from preliminary competition, the 10 remaining U.S. fencers entered the pool rounds on Saturday.
Beijing Olympian Gerek Meinhardt (San Francisco, Calif.) and 2011 Junior World Team Champion David Willette (Lafayette, Calif.) each went undefeated in the pools and advanced directly into the table of 64. Ben Parkins (The Woodlands, Texas) won five of his six bouts and advanced as the 32nd seed.
Juniors Michael Dudey (Bellaire, Texas) and Michael Woo (Wayne, N.J.) also advanced to the table of 64.
Dudey held both of his opponents to single digits scores as he defeated Shervin Tolouei (IRI), 15-4, and Sebastiaan Borst (NED), 15-9.
Woo won his first bout against Raul Arizaga (MEX), 15-12, and his second over Dmitri Rigine (RUS), 15-12.
