(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – Ibtihaj Muhammad (Maplewood, N.J.) will join two-time Olympic Champion Mariel Zagunis (Beaverton, Ore.) and four-time Senior World Team member Dagmara Wozniak (Avenel, N.J.) in the table of 64 at the Orleans Grand Prix on France on Saturday.
Muhammad won five of six bouts in the pools on Friday and defeated Ursula Gonzalez (MEX), 15-12, in the preliminary table of 64, to advance the second day of competition.
As the top-ranked athlete in the world, Zagunis was exempt from competing in the preliminary rounds. Wozniak, the #13-ranked athlete in the world, also was exempt.
Aziza Hassan (Brooklyn, N.Y.) posted a 4-2 record in the pools, but lost in the preliminary table of 64 to 2007 Senior World medalist Bogna Jozwiak (POL), 15-3.
Two-time Junior World Team member Celina Merza (Wayne, N.J.) advanced out of the pools with a 3-3 record, but lost to Alina Komashchuk (UKR), 15-10, in the preliminary table of 64.
Daria Schneider (New York City, N.Y.), Francesca Russo (Wayne, N.J.) and Faizah Muhammad (Maplewood, N.J.) were all eliminated at the conclusion of the pools.
