Soren Thompson and Seth Kelsey Advance to Table of 64 at Legnano Epee World Cup

(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – Soren Thompson (New York City, N.Y.) and Seth Kelsey (Colorado Springs, Colo.) will both compete in the table of 64 at the Legnano Epee World Cup in Italy on Saturday.

As the #10-ranked fencer in the world, Thompson was one of 16 athletes who were exempt from competing in the preliminary rounds of the Olympic qualifier on Friday.

Kelsey competed in the pools on Friday where he won three bouts and lost two. A sixth was scheduled, however, Nikita Glazkov (RUS) forfeited from the tournament.

Kelsey earned a bye into the preliminary table of 128 where he defeated Sung-Ho An (KOR), 14-8.

In the next round, Kelsey won his bout against Luca Ferraris (ITA), 15-12.

Thompson will face Niklas Multerer (GER) in the table of 64. Kelsey is seeded 52nd and will fence two-time Olympian Alfredo Rota (ITA).
