U.S. Men’s Foil Team to Compete in Olympic Test Event This Weekend

(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – The U.S. Men’s Foil Team will compete in the Olympic test event at the ExCel Center in London this weekend.

As the latest event in the London Prepares Series, eight teams have been invited to compete in the London International Invitational Men’s Foil Competition at the venue that will host fencing at the 2012 Olympic Games.

In addition to the United States, teams from China, France, Germany, Italy and Russia will fence in the event. Great Britain will field two teams.

Competition begins with a 32-person individual event on Saturday and the team competition will be held on Sunday.

Team USA includes all four members of the 2011 Senior World Championship Team:

  • Gerek Meinhardt (San Francisco, Calif.), 2010 Senior World medalist
  • Miles Chamley-Watson (Philadelphia, Pa.), 2010 Senior World fifth-place finisher
  • Alexander Massialas (San Francisco, Calif.), 2011 Pan American Games Champion
  • Race Imboden (Brooklyn, N.Y.), 2011 Senior Worlds eighth-place finisher

Meinhardt will fence 2004 Olympic Champion Brice Guyart (FRA) in the first round.

Meinhardt’s teammates each will meet British opponents in their opening bouts. Chamley-Watson will compete against Laurence Halsted while Massialas takes on Keith Cook and Imboden fences against James Davis.
