(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – Francesca Russo (Wayne, N.J.) earned her third straight top-eight international finish of the season on Saturday when she placed eighth at the Sosnowiec Junior Saber World Cup in Poland.

Following top-eight finishes in October at the Konin and Godollo Cadet European Cups, Russo’s eighth place result was the best placing at a European Junior World Cup ever for the 16-year-old.

After a 4-2 finish in the pools, the 2011 Junior and Cadet World Team member entered the table of 128 with a 25th seed.

Russo earned a bye into the 64 and then won her next three bouts against Lisa Freudenberger (GER), 15-11; Benedetta Baldini (ITA), 15-11; and Alina Komashchuk (RUS), 15-10.

In the quarter-finals, Russo lost to Tatiana Sukhova (RUS), 15-8, to finish eighth overall.

Competition continued on Sunday when the men’s event was held.

Bartosz Pukal (Evanston, Ill.) rebounded from a 3-3 result in the pools to finish 32nd at his first Junior World Cup.

Seeded 73rd after the pools, Pukal defeated U.S. teammate John Hallsten (Sacramento, Calif.), 15-13, in the table of 128.

In the table of 64, Pukal defeated Nikita Li (RUS), 15-9, but lost to eventual bronze medalist Kamil Ibragimov (RUS), 15-9, in the table of 32.
