(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – Thirty U.S. athletes have been named to the roster of fencers that will compete at the New York Saber World Cup in New York City from June 24-25.
Held at the New York Athletic Club, this will be the only World Cup Olympic qualifying event to be held on U.S. soil during the lead-up to the London Olympic Games.
Individual preliminary competition will be held on June 24. The table of 64 and all medal rounds will be conducted on June 25. A team competition will take place on June 26. Media interested in attending the event may download a credential application by clicking here.
The lineup is led by two members of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team that won a silver medal in Beijing. A three-time World Cup medalist, Tim Morehouse (New York City, N.Y.) placed sixth at the 2010 New York World Cup in front of his hometown crowd. James Williams (New York City, N.Y.), a two-time Pan Am Championships individual medalist, has placed in the top 16 on the World Cup circuit this year, including a 15th place finish at the Warsaw Grand Prix in Poland two weeks ago.
In addition to Morehouse and Williams, two other members of the 2010 Senior World Team will be competing in New York.
Twenty-year-old Daryl Homer (New York City, N.Y.) is a veteran of two Senior World Teams who placed 12th at the 2010 Senior Worlds in Paris and finished 13th in Warsaw. Homer is currently ranked 18th in the world and could enter the New York World Cup as a top-16 seed.
Ben Igoe (Staten Island, N.Y.) has earned medals at both the Grand Prix and World Cup level and represented Team USA on both the 2009 and 2010 Senior World Championship Teams.
