Juniors Earn International Recognition

The FIE has announced that two USA Fencing junior fencers were named the Junior World Cup Points Winners for the 2009/2010 season.

Courtney Hurley (San Antonio, Tex.) was the top point winner for Junior Women’s Epee and David Willette ((Lafayette, Calif.) won for Junior Men’s Foil. The collegiate fencers will be hosted by the FIE and honored in Moscow, Russia on December 5 of this year as part of the 2010 FIE Conference.

“We are incredibly proud of both of Courtney and David who are the first US Fencers in their respective weapons to earn this honor,” said USA Fencing Executive Director, Greg Dilworth.

Hurley finished the season with 204 points, nearly twenty points higher than Johanna Bergdahl from Sweden. Of the seven international tournaments in which she competed, she finished first in five of them.

In the six international tournaments in which he competed, Willette finished top three 4 times. He had victories at the Pan Am Junior Championships in Mexico and the Eden Cup in London, UK with a final point total of 184.
