Fencing Begins in Cincinnati at Season’s First North American Cup

2010 World Championship team members shone on Friday, Oct. 15, Day One of the first North American Cup of the season, being held this weekend in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Catherine Bouwkamp (Fishers, Ind.) won the Wheelchair Women’s Epee event, Lee Kiefer (Lexington, Ky.) won the Division I Women’s Foil, and Gerek Meinhardt (San Francisco, Calif.) took the gold in the Division I Men’s Foil event. All three are bound for Paris in early November for the World Fencing Championships and the World Wheelchair Fencing Championships.

US World Veteran Team members also led the field. Josh Runyan (San Diego, ) won the Men’s 50-59 Saber, Jane Eyre (Medford, N.J.) took the Women’s 50-59 Saber, Ray Sexton III (Round Rock, Texas) earned the gold in the Men’s 60-69 Saber, Delia Turner (Philadelphia, Pa.) won the women’s 60-69 Saber.

Canadian Marvin Fine won the Men’s 70+ Saber event. Mary Annavedder (Carlsbad, Calif.) won the Women’s 70+ Saber, and Walt Dragonetti (Elyria, Ohio) earned the gold in a large Open Veteran’s Men’s Epee field.
