USA Fencing has been awarded the bid to host the Pan American Zonal Championships in July of 2011. As a result, and in an effort to maximize the success of our teams in this international event, the Division I Individual and Division I Team National Championships will be held at the North American Cup E tournament, April 15-18 in Portland, Ore.

“USA Fencing is excited to host this great international competition,” said USA Fencing Executive Director Greg Dilworth. “U.S. athletes get a chance to compete against the best fencers in our region and a majority of our fencing community has the opportunity to watch and cheer them on to success.”

The Pan American Zonal Championships will be held in conjunction with the USA Fencing National Championships in Reno, Nevada.  Approximately 300 athletes from 23 countries will compete for fencing supremacy.  The Pan American Zonal Championships take place annually and are a key element in the qualification of teams and individuals to the 2012 Olympic Games in London.  Each competing country may send a team of four fencers per weapon to compete in the individual and team event.
