SUMMARY

 

The Finance Director is responsible for managing the financial strategy, management, information, and reporting processes for US Fencing. A successful candidate will also be responsible for providing analytical support related to overall organizational operations, managing day-to-day business operations, and providing timely reporting to various groups within the organization.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

1.     Financial Strategy

·       Provides supporting financial and other information for short-term and long-term strategic planning for US Fencing;

·      Prepare projection models for key financial indicators to help organization identify opportunities to improve financial performance;

·       Directs and analyzes studies of general economic, business, and financial conditions and their impact on the organization's policies and operations;

·       Provide strategic financial counsel to the Executive Director, Budget & Finance Committee, Audit Committee, and senior staff;

·       Ensure integration of financial activities with the strategic plan;

·       Work with senior management to research and analyze the financial implications (eg. ROI, valuation, etc.) of all potential business opportunities.

 

 

2.      Financial Reporting & Controls, Cash Flow Management, Risk Management, and Insurance

·       Direct all aspects of the organization’s finances through the effective implementation of Accounting and Internal Control systems, processes, procedures and policies (accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank statement reconciliations, investment accounts, payroll, sponsorship accounting including value-in-kind, wire transfers, etc.);

·       Effectively manages cash reserves and ensures funds are available for daily operations;

·      Establishes and maintains banking relationships;

·       Provide reliable data, safeguard assets and records, & promote operational efficiency;

·       Directs the accounting function in providing and directing procedures and systems necessary to maintain proper records and to afford adequate accounting controls and services.  Analyzes, consolidates, and directs all cost accounting procedures together with other statistical and routine reports;

·       Ensures routine accounting, payroll, and expense reporting is performed timely and accurately.  Reviews financial reports prepared by Controller or accounting staff;

·       Conducts financial analysis of contract provisions during contract negotiations;

·       Appraises the organization's financial position and issues periodic financial and operating reports;

·       Maintain historical financials and analysis for key indicators, trends, and benchmarks.

 

 

3.     Direct annual budget process and oversee its implementation.

·       Prepare periodic reports with summarize and forecast business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses and earnings based on past, present and expected operations to the Board of Directors including cash flow, budget to actual variance with analysis, balance sheet, and other organization financial data.

·       Provide financial analysis and projections of new programs, capital investments and improvements, and other major financial undertakings of the organization.

·       Provide leadership and recommendations to program staff to maximize revenues and reduce expenses through financial benchmarks, data collection, data analysis, and program evaluation

·       Develop materials used in the budgeting process (financial/operating templates);

 

 

4.      Corporate Auditing, Tax, and Government Reporting

  • Manage all Federal, State and local tax compliance for all ongoing and future operations;

  • Ensures compliance with applicable income tax laws and files tax returns as required;

  • Serve as point person for annual audit process;

 

 

5.     Participation as part of the Executive Leadership Team

·       Lead the accounting & finance staff team

·       Supervise and direct accounting personnel. Duties include interviewing, hiring, training, directing work, appraising and disciplining

 

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

 

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting

  • MBA or Certified Public Accountant Certification (preferred)

  • Minimum of 5 years finance and accounting experience including management of personnel

  • Thorough knowledge of accounting, financial reporting, income tax issues for non-profit organizations

  • Working knowledge of QuickBooks

  • Advanced user of spreadsheet software (Excel)

  • Experience with Grant Financial Management and Reporting

  • Intelligent, entrepreneurial leader with partnership mentality, and significant experience running day-to-day financial operations in a multicultural environment.

  • Superior team leadership skills, including ability to create an organized, efficient and enthusiastic team of highly skilled professionals, as well as a culture of accountability and commitment to achieving results.

  • Strong consensus builder with ability to bring together for greater good multiple stakeholder groups with potentially divergent views. The successful candidate must understand and appreciate (or has the capacity to) the member's interests and have demonstrated an ability to build consensus among multiple constituents.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

·       Office environment – location in Colorado Springs required

·       Employee must be able to sit for extended periods of time; use close/distant vision; hear using the telephone; communicate verbally and electronically; bend and lift up to 10 lbs.

·       Requires some travel with non-traditional hours
