BEIJING (AP) Russia has taken the gold medal in women's foil fencing with an easy 28-11 win over the U.S. team.

Russia's team of Evgenia Lamonova, Victoria Nikichina and Svetlana Boyko simply outdid Americans Emily Cross, Hannah Thompson and Erinn Smart through most of the final late Saturday.

The Russian team and its coaches met for a group hug and bounced around the strip wildly after the win, a Russian flag draped around them.

Russia beat favorite Italy 22-21 in the semifinals. Italy's team featured three-time individual gold medalist Maria Valentina Vezzali and bronze medalist Margherita Granbassi.

Italy beat Hungary 32-23 for the bronze. The U.S. beat Hungary 35-33 to advance.
