U.S. Women’s Epee Team Ranked Third in the World After Sixth Place Finish in Doha

(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – Competing as a team for the first time since winning bronze at the London Olympic Games, the U.S. Women’s Epee Team placed sixth at the Doha World Cup in Qatar on Monday.

London Olympians Courtney Hurley (San Antonio, Texas), Maya Lawrence (Teaneck, N.J.) and Kelley Hurley (San Antonio, Texas) were joined in the team event by four-time Senior World Team member Lindsay Campbell (Brooklyn, N.Y.)

Seeded third, Team USA earned a bye into the table of 16 where the ladies defeated Kazakhstan, 45-21.

Team USA lost in the quarter-finals to Ukraine, 43-38.

In the 5th – 8th place table, the Americans opened with a 45-42 victory over Sweden.

Fencing for fifth-place, Team USA faced Russia in a rematch of their bronze medal match in London.

Although the Russians won the bout, 43-36, the win moved Team USA into the #3 ranking in the world.
