(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – London Olympian Daryl Homer (Bronx, N.Y.) earned his second sixth-place finish of the new season on the international circuit at the Madrid Saber World Cup on Saturday.

While juggling his collegiate schedule at St. John’s University where he is a redshirt junior, Homer’s result in Spain allowed him to move into a #10 world ranking – a career high for the 22-year-old.

A fifth seed at the World Cup, Homer and London teammate Tim Morehouse (New York City, N.Y.) were both exempt from the pool rounds on Friday.

Homer won his table of 64 bout over Julien Medard (FRA), 15-6, and picked up a quick victory 15-3 over Stefano Scepi (ITA) – a sixth-place finisher at the 2012 Junior Worlds.

As the only American in the table of 16, Homer defeated Bjoern Huebner (GER), 15-12.

With one more round needed to guarantee for a medal, Homer lost his quarter-final bout to Veniamin Reshetnikov (RUS), 15-11.

London Olympian Jeff Spear (Wynantskill, N.Y.) found himself two positions short of the top-16 seed he needed to bypass the pools, but he posted a 4-2 result and a 15-8 win in the preliminary table of 64 over Mikhail Akula (BLR) to advance to the table of 64 on Saturday.

Spear defeated Nicolas Rousset (FRA), 15-12, in the table of 64 and placed 30^th after a 15-12 loss to 2008 Olympic Champion Man Zhong (CHN).

Morehouse lost his opening bout to Johannes Klebes (GER), 15-7, and finished 34^th overall.

A 3-3 result in the pools meant that three-time Senior World Team member Ben Igoe (Staten Island, N.Y.) needed two preliminary table wins on Friday to be eligible to compete in the table of 64.

In the first bout, Igoe defeated 2009 Junior World medalist Boris Savich (RUS), 15-12, and followed with a 15-10 win over 2010 Junior World medalist Sebastian Schroedter (GER).

Seeded 58^th in the table of 64, Igoe drew 2012 Olympic Team silver medalist Tiberiu Dolniceanu (ROU) in the first round on Saturday and lost the bout, 15-12, and ended the day in 59^th place.
