Nicole Ross Earns Top-32 Finish at the Budapest Foil World Cup

(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – London Olympian Nicole Ross (New York City, N.Y.) placed 21st at the Budapest Foil World Cup in Hungary on Saturday.

Seeded 16th at the start of the event, Ross was exempt from the pools and preliminary rounds on Friday and defeated Olena Khismatulina (UKR), 12-3, in the table of 64 on Saturday.

In the table of 32, however, Ross lost a close bout to Viktoria Kozyreva (RUS), 15-13.

Fencing in a World Cup event for the first time in two years, Notre Dame sophomore Madison Zeiss (Notre Dame, Ind.) earned her first ever top-64 result at a European Senior World Cup event.

After a 3-3 result in the pools on Friday, Zeiss defeated Kelleigh Ryan (CAN), 15-9, in the preliminary table of 64.

In the table of 64, Zeiss drew 2009 Senior World Champion Aida Shanaeva (RUS). The more experienced Russian won the bout, 15-6, and Zeiss finished in 59th place.
