(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – Adam Watson (Vichford, Vt.) earned his first top-32 result at a Senior World Cup since 2009 at the Heidenheim epee event in Germany on Saturday.

Watson, who finished the pools with a 4-2 result, needed three preliminary round victories in a field of 259 competitors on Friday to advance to the table of 64.

Watson defeated Igor Knyazev (UZB), 15-10, in the preliminary table of 256 and Rouven Ackermann (GER), 15-8, in the preliminary table of 128.

In his final preliminary bout, Watson led Joao Cordeiro (POR), 12-9, after the second period and finished his 15-13 win with two doubles and a single touch.

On Saturday, Watson took a 9-8 lead over 2010 Senior World medalist Gabor Boczko (HUN) after the second period and went on to win the bout, 15-13.

In the table of 32, Watson led most of his bout against Oleg Sokolov, but the Ukrainian came back in the second period to score three straight touches and take the victory, 15-12. Watson placed 31st overall.

Although two-time Olympian Soren Thompson (New York City, N.Y.) trailed Michal Adamek (POL), 4-0, in the table of 64, he came back to tie the bout at seven by the end of the second period. During the final minute of the bout, however, Adamek outscored Thompson, 5-1, to win the bout, 15-12, and leave Thompson with a 37th place finish.
