(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – USA Fencing is pleased to announce that five athletes have been named to the 2013 Women’s Saber Junior and Cadet World Championship Teams.

The final squad to be named for the team that will compete at the Junior and Cadet World Championships in Porec, Croatia this April, the saber team was selected following the conclusion of the Gent Saber Senior World Cup in Belgium over the weekend.

The junior team includes Adrienne Jarocki (Middle Village, N.Y.), Sage Palmedo (Portland, Ore.) and Skyla Powers (Decatur, Ga.)

Jarocki, who did not compete in the Gent event, is ranked fourth in the junior world rankings after winning back-to-back gold medals earlier this month at the Arizona and Budapest Junior World Cups as well as a bronze at the Dormagen Junior World Cup in December. The 17-year-old also won her first ever Division I North American Cup title in December.

Sixteen-year-old Palmedo will be fencing in both the junior and cadet events. Palmedo placed 23rd at the Cadet Worlds in 2012 and finished eighth in the junior team competition, but has since established herself as a top contender for the Senior World Team as well after three top-32 finishes on the Senior World Cup circuit, including a 28th place finish in Gent.

At just 17-years-old, Powers has already fenced on two Junior and two Cadet World Championship Teams, including the 2012 Cadet Worlds where she won bronze. Earlier this season, Powers placed third at the Sosnowiec Junior World Cup in Poland.

A fourth athlete, who will compete in the team event only, will be announced later this week.

On the Cadet World Team, Palmedo will be joined by 17-year-olds Lena Johnson (Peachtree City, Ga.) and Anastasia Ivanoff (Los Angeles, Calif.)

Johnson, who just missed qualifying for the 2012 Cadet World Team, broke through this season with a bronze medal at the Godollo Cadet European Cup in October.

Ivanoff made a late push for the third position on the team after winning back-to-back cadet medals at the January NAC where she took silver and the Junior Olympic Fencing Championships where she won bronze last weekend.
