(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – For most of Team USA’s athletes, the St. Maur Epee World Cup was another international tournament – the fourth of the new season.

But for 2012 Olympic Team medalist Maya Lawrence (Teaneck, N.J.), Saturday was her annual opportunity to compete in her adopted hometown in France.

Lawrence, who lives and trains in St. Maur, relocated to France in 2005 and has since gone on to win bronze in London and gold at the 2012 Pan American Championships.

As the 14th seed in the table of 64, Lawrence was exempt from the pools and preliminary rounds on Friday.

On Saturday, she defeated both Yana Zvereva (RUS) and Camilla Batini (ITA) by 15-10 margins.

In the table of 16, Lawrence faced Rossella FIamingo (ITA) – the 21-year-old who Lawrence lost to in the same round of the Olympic Games last year. Although Lawrence kept the bout close, Fiamingo came away with the win, 15-10, and Lawrence placed 12th.

Two of Lawrence’s London teammates also fenced on Saturday.

Thirteenth seed Courtney Hurley (San Antonio, Texas) was exempt from preliminary competition, but lost her opening bout to Giulia Rizzi (ITA), 13-12, on Saturday and finished 34th.

Hurley’s older sister, Kelley Hurley (San Antonio, Texas), went 4-2 in the pools on Friday and defeated Dora Zavoda (HUN), 15-11, in the preliminary table of 128.

She advanced to the table of 64 after a 15-14 win over two-time Senior World medalist Sherraine Schalm (CAN).

On Saturday, the elder Hurley placed 50th after a 15-6 loss to 2010 Junior World medalist Lauren Rembi (FRA) in the table of 64.
