(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – The next generation of U.S. women’s foil fencers had a chance to represent Team USA on the senior stage when 18-year-old Sara Taffel (New York City, N.Y.) and 16-year-old Sabrina Massialas (San Francisco, Calif.) joined London Olympians Lee Kiefer (Lexington, Ky.) and Nicole Ross (New York City, N.Y.) in the team competition at the St. Petersburg World Cup on Sunday.

For Massialas and Taffel, both members of the 2012 Cadet World Team, this has been their second appearance this season at a Senior World Cup team event.

The squad won its opening bout in the table of 16 over China, 32-26. In the quarter-finals, however, Team USA lost to Korea – the reigning Olympic bronze medalists – in the semifinals.

Team USA defeated Hungary, 45-41, in the next match, but lost its final match to Poland, 39-33, to finish sixth.
