(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – Two members of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team advanced to the table of 16 at the Torino Foil World Cup in Italy on Saturday.

Seeded eighth in the tournament, Nzingha Prescod (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was exempt from the pools and preliminary rounds on Saturday and opened the direct elimination tables with a 15-6 victory over Ye Seul Jang (KOR).

Prescod advanced to the table of 16 after a 15-13 victory over Valentin De Costanzo (ITA).

In her final bout of the day, Prescod lost by a touch to Larisa Korobeynikova (RUS), 15-14. The Russian went on to win bronze – her third individual World Cup podium of the season – and Prescod placed 10th.

Nicole Ross (New York City, N.Y.) was seeded 17th at the tournament and just missed the cut to be exempt from the pools. After a 5-1 result in the pools, Ross was ranked 17th and received the top seed in the preliminary tables where she defeated Italian Susanna Napoli, 15-9, to advance to the table of 64.

On Saturday, Ross won decisive bouts over Flavia Johana Mormandi (ARG), 15-5, and Ilenia Orsolini (ITA), 15-6, in the tables of 64 and 32, respectively.

Fencing in the table of 16 for the first time at a Senior World Cup, Ross lost her bout to Diana Yakovleva (RUS), 15-13, to finish 12th.

Three-time Junior World medalist Margaret Lu (Greenwich, Conn.) also fenced on Saturday. Lu went 3-3 in the pools on Friday, but came back in the preliminary table of 64 to win her bout over Julie Groslambert (BEL), 15-4.

In the table of 64, however, Lu drew Korobeynikova and lost the bout, 15-7, to finish 58th.
