(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – London Olympian Miles Chamley-Watson (Philadelphia, Pa.) came within striking distance of an international medal for the second time this season with a seventh place result at the Seoul Foil World Cup in Korea on Saturday.

Seeded 18th in the tournament, Chamley-Watson arrived in Korea for the first World Cup of the second leg of the season with the task of needing to qualify through the preliminary rounds on Friday in order to join his London teammates – Alexander Massialas (San Francisco, Calif.), Gerek Meinhardt (San Francisco, Calif.) and Race Imboden (Brooklyn, N.Y.) – in the table of 64.

Chamley-Watson went 4-2 in the pools and won his preliminary table of 64 bout to advance to the second day of competition with his teammates who were exempt from the first day due to their top-16 world rankings.

In the table of 64, Chamley-Watson defeated Andrii Pogrebniak (UKR), 15-9, and Massialas won his bout over 2012 Olympian Enzo Lefort (FRA) by the same margin.

The victories set up a table of 32 bout between the teammates – just their third in international competition.

Chamley-Watson won the bout, 15-13, to advance to the table of 16 where he outtouched 2012 Olympian Artur Akhmatkhuzin (RUS), 15-14.

In the quarter-finals, Chamley-Watson dropped his bout to Hua Li (CHN), 15-11, and placed seventh overall.

Imboden and Meinhardt were both eliminated in the table of 64.

Imboden fell to Jeremy Cadot (FRA), 15-7, and finished 34th.

Meinhardt finished 35th after a 13-12 loss to 2009 Junior World Team medalist Dmitry Komissarov (RUS).

Chamley-Watson, Massialas, Imboden and Meinhardt will all fence in the team event on Sunday.
