Nzingha Prescod and Jackie Dubrovich Earn Top 16 Finishes in Shanghai

(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – London Olympian Nzingha Prescod (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Jackie Dubrovich (Riverdale, N.J.) each earned top-16 results at the Shanghai World Cup on Saturday.

Prescod, the tournament’s 11th seed, was exempt from the pools and preliminary rounds and won her table of 64 bout over Mariana Gonzalez (VEN), 15-12.

Prescod went on to win her table of 32 bout against Mi Na Kim (KOR), 15-10.

In the table of 16, Prescod met Larisa Korobeynikova (RUS) for the third time in five tournaments this season. While the each athlete won one bout during their first two meetings of the year, the Russian came away with a 15-11 victory and went on to win gold.

Dubrovich, a three-time Junior World Team silver medalist, placed 15th at her first Senior World Cup.

After finishing 5-1 in the pools on Friday, Dubrovich advanced to the table of 64 where she defeated Naoko Wada (JPN), 15-5.

Dubrovich’s table of 32 bout came down to the wire, but she outscored Seo In Hong (KOR), 8-7.

In the table of 16, Dubrovich lost to eventual silver medalist Diana Yakovleva (RUS), 10-4.

Less than a month after winning silver at the Cadet World Championships, Sabrina Massialas (San Francisco, Calif.) rebounded from a 2-4 result in the pools on Friday to defeat 2006 Cadet World medalist Delphine Groslambert (BEL), 10-7, in the preliminary table of 64.

On Saturday, Massialas lost her opening bout to Korobeyikova, 15-11.
