Team USA Places 12th at the Rio de Janeiro Epee World Cup

(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – The U.S. Women’s Epee Team finished 12th at the Rio de Janeiro Epee World Cup in Brazil on Sunday.

Anchored by 2012 Olympic team bronze medalist Maya Lawrence (Teaneck, N.J.), Team USA also included Kat Holmes (Washington, D.C.) who had just qualified for her first Senior World Team on Saturday as well as five-time Senior World Team member Lindsay Campbell (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Natalie Vie (Phoenix, Ariz.)

In a day of upsets, Team USA lost to Sweden, 42-38, in the table of 16. The Swedes went on to take out Korea, the 2012 Olympic silver medalists, in the quarter-finals while the Americans dropped to the 9th – 16th place table.

Team USA defeated Poland, 45-32, in the first match, but lost to Germany, 43-39, in the next match.

Fencing for 11th place, Team USA fell to Estonia, 36-23, in the final match of the day.
