The U.S. Olympic Committee is pleased to host the International Altitude Training Symposium from Oct. 9-11 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The IATS has a strong tradition of providing the latest information on the use of altitude and hypoxic training to enhance the performance of Team USA Olympic and Paralympic coaches and athletes.

This symposium dates back to November 1994 when former USOC partner Northern Arizona University hosted the event in Flagstaff. The IATS attracts some of the top experts in the field of altitude and hypoxic training, providing unique and scientific-based information with practical application and re-sults in elite competition.

The objectives of the 2013 Symposium are to:

  • Bring together athletes, coaches and sport scientists who have a keen interest in the practical application of altitude training for the enhancement of athletic performance;
  • Present leading research on the applied aspects of altitude training;
  • Discuss practical strategies on how to utilize altitude training in preparation for the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games and the Rio 2016 Olympic Games; and
  • Nurture collaborative research efforts among athletes, coaches and sport scientists for the purpose of understanding altitude training as it applies to athlete performance.
