(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – Sage Palmedo (Portland, Ore.) followed her gold medal finish at the Sosnowiec Junior World Cup two weeks ago with a top-eight finish in Dormagen on Saturday.

Palmedo, a member of the team that won gold at the Junior World Championships in April, earned a bye into the table of 64 where she defeated Ayaka Mukae (JPN), 15-11.

In the table of 32, Palmedo defeated Caroline Queroli (ITA), 15-4, and outtouched Flamina Prearo (ITA), 15-14, in the next round.

Palmedo fell a touch short of winning her second straight medal when she lost in the quarter-finals to Sofia Ciaraglia (ITA), 15-14.

Palmedo now moves up to a career high No. 9 in the junior world rankings and is one of three U.S. women to be ranked in the top 10 as two-time Junior World medalist Adrienne Jarocki (Middle Village, N.Y.) retains her position at No. 2 and Emma Keehan (Chandler, Ariz.) is No. 10. Palmedo also passed Jarocki in the U.S. standings to take the No. 1 ranking.

In the men’s competition, two-time Junior World medalist Eli Dershwitz (Sherborn, Mass.) earned Team USA’s top finish with a 13^th place result.

Dershwitz opened with a pair of 15-8 wins over British fencer Jonathan Webb and 2013 Junior World Team member Kaito Streets (Redwood City, Calif.)

Dershwitz won his table of 32 bout against Tom Seitz (FRA), 15-14, but lost to world No. 1 Iacopo Rinaldi (ITA), 15-14, in the table of 16.

Despite the loss, Dershwitz remains No. 2 in the world and continues to hold his No. 1 U.S. junior ranking. Andrew Mackiewicz (Westwood, Mass.), a 2012 Cadet world medalist, lost in the table of 32, but moved up to No. 8 in the world.
